MINING: Minerals include diamonds titanium ore, bauxite, iron ore, gold and chromites. 

·    Diamond: Sierra Leone produced and exported $142million worth of diamonds in 2005 and this amount to 90% total exports. In 2001 diamond Works Ltd. Of South Africa owned 80% of the Kiodu mines with reserves of 2.07 million carats. Sierra Leone established diamond fields cover an area of almost 20,000km over one quarter of the country in the southeastern and eastern part of Sierra Leone. Kimberly pipes run through the Kiodu and adjourning areas and at Koidu, reserves were estimated at 0.3mct down to a depth of 600 and at Tongo, 3.2mct to a depth of 600m. 

·    Rutile: Sierra Leone has the word’s largest reserves of retile. Sierra Rutile Ltd restarted operation in Sierra Leone July 2006. 

·     Gold: Survey in the 1930’s showed extensive alluvial gold fields in the Sula Mountain/Kangari Hills in the north and central parts of the country. All greenstone belts are known to certain gold deposits for example, at Lake Sonfon, there are gold veins with assay values of up to 32g/t. At Baomahun, gold mineralization in the contact zone is about 100m wide and extends for 1,500m.
