FISHERIES

Sierra Leone has considerable resources of shrimp, cephalopods, lobster demersal species (snappers, catfish, groupers), and large pelagic species (tunas, barracudas). These species have well-established global markets and command high prices reflecting strong intertional demand. Sierra Leone has the potential to produce 300,000 metric tons of fish which includes demersal. Crustaceans, Cephalopods, tuna, Lobsters and Shrimp…..The industrial fishery is about US$20 – 25million; the artisanal fish catch  is worth (at the landing site) about US$14-18million. Average catch of 145,000 tons per annum for those fishing with trawlers. At its height, fishing was a $300 million per year industry.

Proper management of this sector of our economy will  boost our economy
